About the Programme

SYDP strengthens youth leadership, expands access to SRHR, and creates pathways for education and livelihoods. Our programmes connect grassroots communities with national and regional advocacy, ensuring young people are not just beneficiaries but decision-makers.

Background & Problem Statement

Young people in Africa face overlapping challenges: high adolescent fertility rates, barriers to SRHR services, gender inequality, limited education reintegration, climate change impacts, and a widening digital divide.

In Tanzania, Rwanda, and Zambia, many adolescents—especially girls—struggle to access the resources, opportunities, and spaces needed to thrive. These barriers not only limit personal potential but also hold back entire communities from achieving sustainable development.

Vision & Mission

Our Vision

A just and inclusive Africa where young people claim their rights, thrive, and lead sustainable change.

Our Mission

To empower adolescents and youth through rights-based programming, feminist leadership, and community-driven solutions that advance SRHR, gender equality, education, and livelihoods.

Thematic Areas

Our comprehensive approach addresses the interconnected challenges facing young people across the region.

SRHR Access & Information

We expand adolescent-friendly health services, train providers, and deliver comprehensive sexuality education in schools and communities. Mobile outreach clinics, peer educators, and digital platforms ensure information reaches even the most remote youth.

Case Study: In Iringa, Tanzania, adolescent outreach has led to a 42% increase in contraceptive uptake.

Educational Reintegration & Economic Empowerment

SYDP supports adolescent mothers to return to school and provides vocational and entrepreneurship training for vulnerable youth. We build networks of microenterprises, mentor groups, and savings clubs that give young people financial independence.

Success Story: A group of 25 girls in Zambia transitioned from dropouts to business owners running small-scale agro-enterprises.

Youth Leadership & Policy Influence

Youth councils, advisory panels, and advocacy scorecards ensure young people have a seat at the decision-making table. We build capacity for youth-led campaigns on SRHR, gender justice, and climate resilience, while engaging government and regional bodies.

Impact: Over 300 youth leaders trained in advocacy, climate justice, and SRHR across the three countries.
